HFC fluids are the most widely used fire resistant hydraulic fluids due to temperature and lubrication properties. These water-glycol fluids, as classified by the International Standards Organization (ISO), include a high percentage of glycol (55 to 65%) that can chemically attack conventional urethane materials. NBR has been the material of choice due to its chemical resistance towards a high percentage of glycol content. As a result, most end users compromise by choosing the chemical resistance of NBR versus the superior abrasion resistance and longevity offered by urethane.
