It is often necessary to cool high pressure hose during manufacture to make the hose more rigid. This rigidity allows the layers of metal wire or high-tensile filament to be more uniformly applied before final vulcanization. While dry ice or a liquid bath can be tried, liquid nitrogen offers the best method for quality, efficiency and control.
Cooling with liquid nitrogen is accomplished in a chamber with a central tunnel. The hose passes through the tunnel and liquid nitrogen flows through an internal cooling spiral. The system design forces cold nitrogen gas back towards the tunnel entrance to precool the entering hose. Temperature control is automatic and adjustments are simple and fast acting.
Liquid nitrogen offers many advantages during hose cooling:

Reduced wear on the weaving equipment since less tension is needed since upon warming the hose will expand to yield final braid tightness
