The AL200 GAS PLASMA SYSTEM is clean room compatible and available in table-top or free-standing cabinetry versions. Plasma generation is via 2.45 GHz frequency resulting in low process temperatures so even very heat-sensitive materials can be treated. Other standard features include Windows-based control with error monitoring and recipe storage; electrode-free aluminum chamber; and mass flow controllers with magnetic valves for precise gas measurement. Other options include a tumbling device for bulk parts treatment and special liquid flow controllers for thin film/PECVD processing.
Many polymers such as PS, PP and HDPE have innately low surface energy resulting in a non-wetting surface. This makes bonding, printing or coating difficult. Exposing these materials to a short gas plasma treatment can dramatically increase the surface energy resulting in a more wettable, receptive surface. Since plasma affects only a few atomic layers by rearrangement and incorporation of chemical functional groups onto the surface, the visual and bulk properties of the material do not change. Absolute process repeatability is possible since treatment occurs under vacuum in a precisely controlled environment.
