The Beacon inspects 2-D surfaces (including cylindrical surfaces) for defects down to the micron level. The system is available either as an “out-of-the box” or custom configurable solution. A complete system includes optimal lighting, appropriate high resolution camera(s), and optics for your particular application. This system easily integrates with your current robotics, or Boulder Imaging can specify and deliver a complete robotic system.
What the system does
The Beacon scans the entire surface of a part, component (such as a label), or web material and within milliseconds analyzes the surface for defects. Defects can include chips, bubbles, inclusions, scratches, dents, non-registration, or any other non-uniformity. It can also inspect thickness of coatings on just about any type of material. You can now affordably and instantly inspect 100% of your parts, regardless of the speed of your manufacturing process.
The Beacon categorizes and determines part pass or fail and sends the results to the robotic system to sort as appropriate. If a part fails, a high resolution image and a detailed data profile of the defects are sent to a quality control station for analysis. From there, reports are generated describing overall and specific performance characteristics of the part and the production process. This allows a production manager or process engineer to identify and correct specific problems in real-time.
