Press Release

ROUND TABLE, SEPTEMBER 2013 : (Bibbiano, IT) The G-MOBY line was created in partnership with SB Plastics Machinery ( www.sbplastics.com ) Gamma Meccanica SpA ( www.gamma-meccanica.it )

These new lines produce pellets suitable for packaging foodstuffs (in contact with food) in accordance with FDA and EFSA standards. The systems can also be used to upgrade the granules quality with SSP technology.

The process consists of two phases: recovery of the waste using a Gamma Meccanica line designed specifically for PET recycling; and, a second phase where the pellets are "processed" using Moby technology.

In the first phase, the waste receives a treatment of dehumidification. This operation is very important because the absence of moisture inhibits the degradation by hydrolysis, during the extrusion process. We get this result thanks to the COMPAC unit where PET is brought and maintained at a temperature of 180-200 ° C, to ensure the complete evaporation of water. The second step in the process is the fusion, filtration and granulation of PET, which occurs by the use of the extruder ( close to the shredder ), a screenchanger and an underwater pelletizer.

What is obtained at the end of the process is a granule of amorphous PET with a very low grade of decrease of IV (Intrinsec Viscosity), often reduced to zero. The filtration is very important because it eliminates the impurities present in the material (paper, wood, aluminum, etc ...) and can achieve removal of particles larger than 32 microns.

At this point, the granule that comes out from the cutter still retains most of the heat acquired during the two previous processes; it is then introduced to the MOBY.

This device uses the procedure of radiation by infrared waves and vacuum; in one step: crystallizes, dehumidifies and operates "Super-Cleaning" on the material. In this way, all the contaminants present in the PET are removed making it suitable for food use. The same machine can be used to "upgrade " the material by operating the so-called SSP (Solid State Polycondensation ), returning to the material the same mechanical characteristics and rheological properties which it had in its virgin state. Indeed, only by increasing the time of permanence of the granule into the MOBY, can you reach an even higher grade of IV. "G • MOBY" guarantees the maximum benefit to the end user thanks to the flexibility of the input material and that of the output material.

G • MOBY, in fact, can pelletize the waste in any form - from bottles, yarn, fabric waste, or film - by means of the COMPAC shredding unit that agglomerates the material and prepares it for the extruder. So, through careful filtration, using the TI underwater pelletizer, and the infrared system and vacuum, the G • MOBY regeneration line returns a PET that can be used in any production, from food packaging ( the so-called bottle-to-bottle ) to applications that require high toughness.

Exploiting the flexibility of the system in the correct way, investment returns of around 12 months can be achieved.
