3-dimensional contours are possible with contour heating elements. Long cycle time is typical, 10 to 15 seconds less in the case of high-temperature contact welding (over 400°C). Joint can be designed to hide melt flash with flash trap. Certain material will string but it's possible to use Teflon non-stick coating up to about 500°F. Platen may run up to 900°F for some materials, with caution regarding oxidizing and contaminating proceeding part joints (in either case, cleanup will be required). This also requires a high power consumption as well as enlarging the platen due to thermal expansion.
