The recoSTAR HDPE FG+ is designed specifically for the processing of hot-washed HDPE flakes for reuse in food-contact applications. The line is available in three machine sizes which cover an output range of 1,400 – 7,275 lbs./hr.
Through Starlinger’s super-cleaning recycling process, post-consumer HDPE from milk and beverage containers is turned into high-quality pellets fit for direct food contact packaging applications. This recycled material can be reused up to 50% in the manufacture of new HDPE containers for contact with all types of food (FDA Letter of Non-Objection). This process uses precisely heated air along with a controlled vacuum to guarantee consistent residence times according to the “first in first out” (FIFO) principle. The optional online writer and archiving system collects all process data relevant to food contact. All production settings can be stored in a recipe management system and are easily downloadable via USB port.
During the first two stages of the process, the hot-washed HDPE flakes are heated and dried. They then pass through specially designed dryer outlets, which assure consistent residence times and the FIFO processing. During the extrusion phase, the high-vacuum degassing extruder removes volatile contaminants from the melted polymer. Finally, Starlinger’s patented solution for water ring pelletizing ensures exact cutting of the material into high quality granules.
